Safeguarding

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is paramount to everything we do at St John’s and is integrated in all aspects of everyday life for students and staff. We are committed to ensuring the safety of every student, monitoring their well-being, responding to concern and constantly reviewing and updating the safety of the school site. All staff have appropriate training so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. We have a Safeguarding Team who are trained to support Children and Families with any concern and will work with a wide variety of agencies to support all Children.

We shall endeavour to ensure that:-

  • The site is safe and secure
  • We work together to ensure your child’s attendance is meeting our expectation, enabling your child to reach their full potential
  • Any adults working with your children are safe to do so and are recorded on the Single Central Record (SCR)
  • All necessary measures are taken to prevent bullying and to resolve bullying issues, this involves accurate recording of information to track and monitor behaviour within school (Please see our anti bullying policy for further details)
  • Emergencies have been considered and planned for, this includes fire and lockdown procedures
  • Staff will act as an advocate for your children, we will listening to your child’s voice and act accordingly to safeguard our families
  • Staff adhere to the Whistleblowing policy
  • Staff will follow the Safeguarding Protocol and, in so doing, challenge other agencies who do not respond proactively and with you and your child’s best interest at heart
  • Ensure that children are given online safety knowledge as part of our curriculum
  • Actively support the Governments Prevent Agenda to counter radicalisation and extremism.
  • Teach your children about healthy relationships
  • Ensure your child know who to speak to if they have a concern
  • Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
  • Ensure all adults who are in school have completed and understand Statutory Safeguarding

Support during Term Time

Safeguarding our students is our highest priority. Ensuring our students are safe is the responsibility of us all: colleagues, parents, visitors and our community. If you have any concerns about the safety and welfare of any our students, inform our Safeguarding Team immediately. Don’t keep concerns to yourself, report them so we can look into them. All safeguarding concerns should be reported to our Safeguarding Team.

Support During School Holidays

The school holidays should be a time for students to have fun, relax and take a break from studying. However, for some children and young people, school holidays can be difficult for a variety of reasons. We’ve gathered some useful information about the services available which may be helpful if you or someone you know needs some support. Please CLICK HERE to view this information.

Our Safeguarding Team:

Mrs Alana Watson – Trust Safeguarding Lead

Miss Rachel Ireland – Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr B Stanley

Our Family Link Officer is Miss R Beresford

Young Carers

A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who looks after a family member or friend who has a physical or mental health condition, misuses drugs or alcohol or has a life limiting illness. They may also look after brothers, sisters or elderly relatives too.

We know that managing school life and caring responsibilities can be challenging. If your child has caring responsibilities at home, please make sure you let us know so that we can offer support to your child and your family.

We can access external support for our Young Carers via Young Carers Notts.  Please click here to access their website for more information
